Excalibur Engine Hoist?

I bought some shop equipment a couple years back from a mechanic that was going through a divorce. The best of the bunch was an Excalibur Engine Hoist, 4-ton model. I've used it for everything from hoisting small blocks, to loaded Dana 60 axles to 7.3L Powerstrokes, 6.6L Duramax's and even Cummins Turbo Diesels. It has pin settings for 1-ton, 2-ton, 3-ton and 4-ton and has barely let out a groan. MUCH MUCH better than the average cheap stuff I've had before, and even better than the ones I used to rent before owning my own.

Has anyone heard of this brand? Knowing my luck, it'll end up being a Chinese unit But gotta say, it's thick, heavy, has great solid steel casters and has worked well for years. Would appreciate any info anyone has on the brand.

was looking for info as I like knowing background of various tools and equipment. Also, if i like a product, I'd like to know more about the company so I can see what other products they offer. Thanks for the help though

I have a one ton version. It is better built than the HF and Torin Big Red 2 ton hoists. Aparently this is a USA made hoist after a little google searching. Company appears to no longer be in business and the excaliburtool.com link doses not work.

Looking at my hoist I realized it's marked as 2 ton with a 3 ton jack instead of the proper 8 ton. Apparently someone replaced it in the past witht the wrong one. Since it was leaking anyways I replaced it with a HF air over hydraulic 8 ton.

My error, it has 4000, 3000, 2000, 1000# holes- so it is a 2 ton

From the cylinder to the hook, in the 1000# position, it is 53 ".

My husband bought his Excalibur engine hoist in 1987 or 88.

He's selling it now; his hands are stiff. He said the old mechanics tried to tell him to take it easy when he was younger, because he'd feel it when he got older. He wishes he took their advice.

Because of this post I found out more about the engine hoist. It is a good one. I read that it might be top heavy. But my husband said he never had any problems with it.

Excalibur is now out of business. Seems that they are the ones who patented the "creep or seat". This is the creeper that could fold up into a mechanics seat. Several tool companies had them copied and built in China. Excalibur sued and won. I guess that the litigation was too much?
I have the engine lift that you have and recently bought the 20 ton press to make a press brake. Seems much higher quality than the HF stuff. Not as high as OTC stuff, but bargain priced when you can find it.

The only thread I could find on these hoists. I have one on layaway now. I looked at a delco(I think) hoist and it was made of thinner material. So while I do not believe that I got a great deal I picked the best available cherry picker in this town.

I have one of them. I purchased it from Advance Auto Parts. Have had it since 1997. The hydraulic ram started leaking just after it was out of warranty. It is very small leak.
