Interesting. What about buying refrigerant? Seems like most places might not sell to individuals to protect their professional accounts. When I moved here in 1990 Sam's club had larger tanks for sale. It ended not too long after. In the mid 80's you could buy a spray can of Freon 12 for cooling electronic components for troubleshooting.

I too just took the Universal 608 on SkillCat for free and passed the EPA Universal. I did not purchase the plastic wallet size SkillCat card, I just printed the certificate myself. My question is about the certification number. My certification number looks more like a computer-generated password than an actual EPA certification number, 3 capital letters, 4 small letters, and 3 numbers. I also have the EPA 609 certification, from another training company, and it's not like that. Could this be a SkillCat certificate code of some kind or is this an actual EPA number?
I was looking through Q&A on EPA site and it doesn't look like EPA actually keeps registration info for certified technicians the numbers may be provider specific. One of the questions was about lost certificate numbers and all the answers pointed back to whoever provided certification. Skillcat does show up as approved organization though so am sure it's valid.

Sorry for the miss information! I just had a chat with that website and found out it is not an EPA website. So could anyone please let me know if this certification number resembles a standard EPA number. Not my number but it looks something like this: GBRyW3i9q7

There is no "standard EPA number", because the EPA does not issue certificates or monitor whether or not a certificate is valid. cgrutt spelled it out. The EPA approves testing facilities that give out their own certificates with numbers they make up. Their certification of you is their testimony that you passed their testing regime, which was EPA approved. You are responsible to maintain your records of your certification, because the testing company does not file your records with the EPA.

The EPA 608 certification allows you to work with and purchase refrigerant so there's no reason you wouldn't be able to purchase it. Most HVAC supply houses require a commercial account so that can be a PITA but there are plenty of online refrigerant sources. I've used Royal Refrigerants a couple of times and have found their pricing and service to be excellent.

Thanks, rlitman and cgrutt. I got the EPA 609 MVAC certification before the 608 from another training facility and the 609-certification number just looked like a regular numerical number, Skillcats numbering system just looked very strange to me, probably computer generated.
