My dad has a Snap On N71 I believe 1/2" Ratchet made a million years ago. The internals are a bit run down after being used by cavemen to invent fire for years on end.

The good part is that I told pops about ratchet rebuild kits (he got the ratchet from gramps 30 years ago) that should be able to make it tip top. So he contacted SO directly and they told him they didn't have anymore rebuilds for items that old or something. So they just got his info and sent him a brand new F80 ratchet.

They accidentally sent him a 3/8" instead so he wrote them back and they're sending him a new 1/2" as promised as soon as they get their 3/8" back. No questions asked.

My question, is this level of service normal? If so I'll be saving up for SO ratchets because I did get to play with the F80 for a while and ******** it was nice. Didn't have the COO stamp on it anywhere oddly enough. That's standard for F80's right?

No, we actually cracked it open, cleaned out the Nixon era grease, put new grease in and it works ok now. It's quite loose a bit rickety but it works allright. For some reason I guess their answer to not having rebuild kits is to send you a damn new ratchet. Great deal for my dad as he's gonna be getting a sizeably better rat. for free. He'll probably buy SO stuff in the future though because of this so it's excellent business.

Was it an S80? Could swore it had F80 stamped by the handle. Right next a weird dot imprint. Guess that was the date code or something. As best as we can tell the N71 is like, circa '63.

S80 is the 80 tooth ratchet in 1/2" drive. (T = 1/4", F = 3/8", S = 1/2")

Maybe ones of the dealers can help you source a rebuild kit for the N71 anyway.

I just bought a F80 and a S80, boy are they the best things ive ever used or used. Got em both for 60 a peice new on ebay

Gotchas, thanks for the SO lesson. Before I merely "liked" SO rats but now after feeling the F80, man, I gotta use SO rats.

they are wonderful ratchets and not a single complaint.
I few broken ratchet handles on the flex head ones, but no broken teeth yet.
I wish all the ratchets out there were the new dual 80 style.

I got to use my fhnf100 yesterday removing the O2 sensor from my 90 chevrolet truck. Original sensor and came from Illinios and was rusted in place. it was nice to use a really fine ratchet becuase the amoutn of room was severely limited.

For having the same amount of teeth, I wouldve thought the 3/8s would turn easier than the 1/2 but I was wrong, they are amazing!!!

A friend of mine sheared the square drive off his SHLF80. No damage to the teeth though.
