Ok folks, I was out in the barn today, 85 degrees here in Missouri, like 185 degrees inside the barn! LOL Im seriously contemplating on installing an exhaust fan at the gable end of my barn. 24x30, how many cfms would i need for this space and would ANYONE have any suggestions or pics of how i would flash or finish off the outside after a cut a giant hole in the back of my building????? I'm thinking of finishing it off with that J-channel stuff just like they did my walk in door. has anyone installed one of these and if so please provide information on how you installed it. Also what is the tool of choisce to cut through the metal siding??????Thanks in advance guys;)

I put one of these in the attic of my cabin to help move air around and keep the musty smell down... I also added one to the bathroom (that one only an 8") and am installing one in the kitchen area to **** the cigarette smoke out during hunting season. They come with a deflector that mounts on the outside. I added some screen to the bottom to keep the bugs and birds out but they work very well..... You may want to go with something larger to clear a whole barn though....

Hi all !
Ive been enjoying this site for a while, but this is my first post.
I just started a new shop, 30x40 here in Massachusetts, ill get pics and sig updated soon.

That said, Toyo, I would check out the louvered exhaust fans at Northern tool.
I installed one in my last steel building, worked great, easy to install. Grainger has nice selection, but northern's pricing is better...

I used the 20 inch model on a 1000 SQ ft bldg, built a small screen-frame to put under the partially open garage door, and cooled that baby right down !

How big is your barn? A gable fan may not make that big of a difference in a big open area. They are rated cubic feet per minute and you can find guides on-line that will match cfm to room square feet. I put a 1650 cfm in my 1 car garage and it does help move air through. I framed in the opening with 2x4's then mounted the fan on osb. See pic below.

If you want to really move some air google "Whole House Fan". I have one of these in my hallway ceiling and it really moves some air. You could mount it vertically if you have the space. Might **** the hat off your head.

Is ceiling/attic insulation an option? I had mine done with blown in to R30 or R36 for heating, but it made it much better in summer too. Probably a 10 to 15 degree drop.
