I am looking for an exhaust fan with louvers to mount high in the rear wall of my garage. I would like to use the fan to exhaust fumes when staining or painting. The garage will be a 20' x 27' attached garage. I was looking at the 16” light duty (pn#19455K22) fan on page 621 on mcmaster.com. My main concern is the steel frame rusting on the outside.

My budget is about $300 and I would like to stay in the 16 - 18" range.

What have others used for this purpose?

is it a sealed motor?

...i don't like venting anything potentially combustible with a non-sealed motor.

had a friend some years back who vented his negative-pressure spray booth with a whole-house fan (attic fan)...
he walked out of the booth, moments after spraying, to get the phone...
couple seconds later there was a noise, and it got warm. the side of the booth blew off. quick little explosion. no real damages, but it could have been much worse.
that very day, i changed the vent fan on my home booth to one with a sealed motor.

I purchased that 18" fan. I am happy with how much air it ***** out of the garage. I have only sprayed some primer in the garage and it didn't blow up. I am not sure if I will commit to spraying a full blown car or not. I am going to make a filter box to fit around it to try filtering the fuses/paint particles before it hits the motor.
I just cracked the bottom of the garage door, turned it on high and sprayed on moderation (never let the garage get filled with fumes/primer.
