How does one exhaust say for an upright 5HP 60g air compressor in a 24' x 24' work bay in the shop? 1.5' all around the compressor so it's not "jammed in the corner against the wall"...

Go.

Oh, and thank you. :)

ETA: And don't suggest that I open up the rollup door please...

wait...wut?...the exhaust for an air compressor goes into the tank (!!!)

Are you speaking of running an IC engine powered air compressor inside the shop?

Don't ask.
I've never seen an upright with a gas engine. My first thought would be to put it outside and plumb the air in. Second thought is to sell/trade and get an electric. Option 3 would be to modify it to electric.
I'm sure that piping the exhaust out could be done. IMO probably not practical for reasons of cost and safety.

If you’re talking about removing the cooling air exhaust then you’ll have to vent it outside by opening a hole in the wall. You could use some dampeners to open and close as required. The compressor pump cooling fins should have enough force to send the hot air outdoors provided that the compressor is fairly close to the wall. Otherwise you’ll have to use a fan of some kind to push the hot air out.
