Hey guys,

I need a specialty snap rings pliers and can't seem to find anything close. Need something with a long reach..and its a very small snap ring.

The ring is an internal ring and its buried in a bore. 1.57" deep. Bore diameter is about .5", and steps down to the retainer bore right at the end.

A .030" tip is required.

Take a look at the K-D 445 removable tip snap ring pliers, pat # 3040420. They come with a few removable tips in different lengths. I see they also sell tips seperate, that may be long enough to work for you. If not, you can always make your own tips out of old allen wrenches, or similar stock, then grind points on them. I have also ground down the tips on a cheap long nose HF quality needle nose pliers, back in the day. I just don't know how proud you want to be of these! Lol

What might work is making extended tips for a pair of interchangeable tip pliers. The ones that take tips made from hex stock. Cut a pair of hex keys to length and grind tips on 'em.

Something like these.

If it's really that small, rather than grinding the tips into a cheap pair of pliers, maybe you could grind tips onto a hemostat. A smaller one will fit in there easy.

I've got those channel-lock snap ring pliers (mainly because they're just so cool), but I think that even with an extended tip, they'll be too big to get in there, because the grooves in the end that accept the tips, have them angle together a bit too much.

Maybe something like this could work. I like this style for some things, because it leaves less stress on keeping your hands still to prevent the ring from getting away.

Your reply wasn't there when I opened the thread. Great minds think alike:thumbup:

That's easy fixed by bending the tips;)
