I've done multiple searches with little luck. We're looking to expand our current two-car garage by adding a third bay with a taller door and a possible lift. Do you have any ideas, threads or pictures of garages expanded this way?

Thanks,
Jon D.

Is it going to be 3 wide or 2 deep next to a single. I am looking at doubling my 22 by 24 making it 22 by 48, I've got a few ideas.

Yep, look at my thread in the gallery.

I did exactly what you are talking about, except I started with a detached 2-car. Once I got to the framing and such it wasn't difficult. I had lots of issues leading up to that, mainly around concrete and such. With a good contractor, I wouldn't expect to see those types of issues.

To keep it proportional, I'm leaning towards adding a tandem bay next to the existing two car garage. Possibly using a taller door and making the roofline tall enough to install a lift.

bluesman2a, thanks for the post.

I did a search earlier and hadn't seen any new posts. Anyone seen any new posts with someone adding a third tandem bay next to an existing 2-car garage?

Thanks,
Jon D.

I'm actually just starting to look into doing the exact same thing.

Does anyone have an estimate on the cost of adding an extra bay both contractor pricing and the cost of a more DIY approach.

Thanks,
-Andrew

My plans have changed a bit instead of adding 22 x 24, I am adding 14 x 24 out the back of one stall. It will be a 12 foot wall..........as soon as the frost is out of the ground MAY 25 !!!!!
The lumber package is $6000 delivered, metal siding ashphalt shingles, 2 x 6 walls insulated with one person door and a 9 x 8 roll up insulated door.
The concrete will be plenty due to the location.....$7000 hopefully no more.
Electrical.....unsure as the electrician has a great set of invisible trucks !!!
Pictures will be posted once things start.

Hi folks, I'm new here but have been having a great time reading all the useful information to be found.
I'm in the process of adding to my garage. I currently have a 22x24 garage that I use exclusively for woodworking and storing my motorcycle. Unfortunately, the city only allows me up to 720 sq ft for my up-sized garage. I would have enjoyed about 1000 sq ft, if possible.
I'm just having the front of the building bumped out about 11'. The permits have been pulled and the concrete guy is scheduled to come out next week (weather permitting).

A question for those who have expanded already - Last year I bought a 35000 BTU heater but didn't install it. Now that the building is going to be bigger, I'll need more heat. Is it possible to run 2 natural gas heaters in tandem, but going to the same thermostat? I'd prefer to do it that way rather than spending money on a bigger heater and not using the brand-new heater I bought last year.

Thanks for any advice.

As far as I know, a natural gas heater simply relies upon the thermostat to "complete the circuit", while not pulling any amperage from the circuit. With that in mind, you could in theory install an infinite number of heaters on that circuit.
