I am getting tired of cleaning out the expansion cracks (cuts) in my garage floor. Is there a special caulk to use, or can I just use any none hardening caulk to fill these in? Or is this just a bad idea to fill them in?

I personally will never fill them. I have had many customers ask. Some people fill them in without a problem. I will run a v-notch blade to widen them to about 1/2", then fill the bottom to smooth it. It is much easier to clean, and if the bottom does eventually crack- no big deal. If the floor does not have expansion joints, I will put them in at the customers request. I have seen too many broken floors due mostly to the builder not adding the joints.

This was discussed a few weeks back at length. I have been using the Sika urthane joint sealant and it works well. I mask the joint on each side and if the joint is very deep, you will want to fill it with sand up to about 1/2 to 3/4 inch from the top. The sealant is very runny and will flow down into a deep joint and you have to re do it several times to get it full. Home Depot sells the Sika products in the area with the Quickcrete and concrete patch products. It comes in regular size caulk gun tubes and the large quart size tubes. If you have much to do, get a big caulk gun and buy the big tubes, its much cheaper, about half the price this way.

Be sure and mask, you will regret it if you don't. I pull up the tape and use a razor scraper to shave off the sealant flush with the floor.

How much cleaning is required to do this successfully? Do I need to just blow it out or would it be better to use miratic acid or some other type of cleaner?
