I’m getting my garage floor done next Monday and Tuesday and I’m pulling out the **** the concrete guys put between the garage floor and the apron in front of the garage so the floor guy can seal down and into the gap.

What is the longest lasting stuff I can fill the gap with? I’ve retired from construction work and work on many buildings where the callers could caulk a wide gap after putting backer rod in the gap first but I have about a 1” gap and homeowner caulking guns.

Is there any reason a guy can’t fill them half way with play sand or sand in a tube and the pour crack seal for asphalt driveways in the gap?

I have no experience using this material under epoxy but…….
This is hands down the best product I found for my Michigan driveway and garage floor.

As you said I filled the crack to about 1/2” from the top and used the above sealer.
Its not the cheapest but it is worthwhile to by a larger caulking gun so you can use the 30oz tubes.

If you are not intending to coat over it, SikaFlex over dry sand or backer rod works fine.

The backer rod is to form the back side of the sealant into an hourglass. There's geometry thickness of sealant to width if joint recommendations as well.

Just to be clear are you applying an epoxy / coating over the filler?
No it is outside. The garage floor is going to be polyurea coated instead of epoxy, but they did say they could wrap it around down into the gap where the expansion joint is so I’m gonna tear out the crabs that the concrete guys put in there.

Sikaflex and similar urethane self levelling caulks are great, but they take a while to skin over, and longer to cure. You might consider placing something over the fresh caulk to keep leaves and other stuff from falling onto it.

Sikaflex 1cSL. Only use a flexible polyurethane sealant. Any latex caulk will fail. Alternatively, if you have asphalt that butts to your garage floor, a pourable cold tar will work well.
