After aligning my car in the dark the other night I've decided it's probably time to replace these worn out metal halides. I have two 400W bulbs that I'd like to replace with a LED corn cob. I see varying prices, anywhere from the $50 Amazon special upwards. I plan on bypassing the ballast. Anybody have thoughts/experiences with this? Is it worth buying a higher quality LED? Who makes a quality LED?

I do this a work frequently. Very easy to do. Remove the ballast and wire directly to socket. It does not matter what wire goes where. Satco makes quality bulbs, that is what I use. There are many options. You may notice the lumens will be less with the LEDs but they look much brighter when installed and will not dim over time. Another thing to look out for is bulbs with or without a fan. I have installed both and have not had problems, but the fan concerns me with longevity over time.

I'll check them out, thanks for the tip. Any thoughts on just replacing the MH bulb with a corn cob style vs replacing the entire fixture with a high bay LED?

I removed some similar Mh 400watt fixtures for a friend who used some thing like this: 150W LED UFO High Bay Light Warehouse Commercial Industrial 5000K AC 100-277V . https://www.ebay.com/itm/3033647271...7eFCAQa6jxVR3jgVXSKG|ampid:PL_CLK|clp:2047675

If you can get them as cheap as he did for about $75.00 , I would not use a corncob. More light, and they operate on multiple voltages, like your light. He liked them so much he wants me to replace the last 6 out of 10

Don't recommend the cob bulbs.

I installed a couple of these a few years ago in my barn. Just took the diffuser lens and disconnected the ballast off my highbay fixtures and they've been great. Great color, 4000K is quite pleasant to be under, and the lens has really good light coverage.

Got around to installing these and I'm pretty happy with them. Ended up with two 150w LED replacements. Let's see how long they last...

Originally I thought the sodium lights were 240, but when I got up to the wiring they were 120. Either way, these LEDs would have worked with either.
