When I have batteries that might go unused for prolonged periods, I store them at ABOUT 40-60%. When it comes to Li-ion batteries, it's actually detrimental to store them at full charge (or keep them on a charger) for a long time. Even when the battery and/or charger is "smart enough," they will try to maintain the charge level at peak or near peak (100%).

If you cycle through all your batteries regularly, of course it's not an issue, but me just being DIY, I don't cycle through them nearly enough to keep all of them fully charged all the time.

Of the several M12 and M18 knock offs I've had, I only have 1 M18 left and it will only charge on 1 charger I have (out if 3 others).

The others quite charging or would show charged and die almost instantly. I don't think they lasted over a year or two.

The factory batteries, I have a few that are 10 years old and still work fine.

I swear the generic EGO batteries are actually better. I've been using two for the last 3 years, excellent. Two actual EGO batteries have failed in that time.

I'm mostly Metabo HPT. I have adaptors where I can use Metabo batteries with my old Ryobi and Makita tools.
