I have a MWBC going into the mas bath which now sits gutted out for a remodel. My plan is to use one 20A circuit for all outlets (4), 4 recessed lights and a fan all protected by a GFCI. The 2nd circuit will not power any outlets within the bathroom but will power a couple more light fixtures as well as an exterior light and outlet. I plan on using the GFCI on that exterior outlet as there will be no outlets on that circuit within the bath.
The only reason for having any lights on the 2nd circuit and even coming into the bath is if the GFCI pops at night and the place goes dark. Reading the NEC I see that this might comply because (a) you are allowed to power other devices off one 20A circuit but that power cannot leave that bathroom, and (b) you can power outlets in other bathrooms as long as the circuit is powering outlets only. I think I can have power on the lights and exterior devices because there are no bathroom outlets involved. I think the word used in the text is 'receptacle'.
The way it was previously wired was not compliant IMO. I would like to be compliant.
I don't have a 2014 book and we're still on 2011 AFAIK.
