What hurts you? Is it the flying shrapnel or the high pressure from the explosive force or the loud decibels?

I never really understood what does the harm when a hand grenade, firecracker, or bomb detonates.

All of the above.

Shrapnel punctures and lacerated as well introduces bacteria into the body. High pressures cause damage to hollow organs as well as rupturing ear drums.

Then you have the injuries caused by your body impacting things as you are thrown or fall.

The key is that is if it's maintained. You have no way of knowing.

Inspection camera. Higher quality units have inspection ports. My home compressor (roughly 60 gal) is from 1956 and still perfectly serviceable.

On an aside welding industrial sized pressure vessels is not only common but acceptable. Trick is knowing what you're doing.

Few jurisdictions allow welding on pressure vessels unless it is done by an ASME / NBIC qualified shop, using certified welders.

Here's a link that you can use to find a certified shop near you, Search for a company that has an "R" Stamp and or a "U" Stamp: http://www.nationalboard.org/ManufacturerDirectory.aspx

Check out the video DenisG posted.. it's an eye opener..

It seems that even if you drain the tank, the mud (made by the loose rust particles and water) tends to hold onto the moisture. Not saying that regular draining doesn't help, but it seems like it would be another project to clean out the mud. Mother Nature doesn't give up real easy.
