Explosion prof fan?

I want to add an exhaust fan in my 2 1/2 car garage. I plan on doing some light auto repair and body work. I don't plan on painting vehicles but do plan on painting Frame and such. Question is do I need an explosion prof fan?

Depends on how much paint fumes you plan on creating when you are spraying in a confined area. I've always used a professional commercial booth or in a large garage with the door open, or just out in the driveway, w/o any problems.
You'll need to do your research and learn more about when explosion proof equipment is needed. Explosion proof fans are very expensive when purchased new.

No, you need to start the fan running before fumes build up.

It's very hard to explosion-proof a structure (I used to work for a company that sold NIR spectrophotometers for use in grain silos where the dust buildup is an explosion hazard).

If your compressor is in the area, it has a pressure switch that isn't explosion proof. Regular light switches aren't explosion proof. Motors with brushes are not explosion proof (unless they are totally sealed). That means just about any power tool (saws, drills, electric impact drivers, etc.) is not explosion proof. Garage door openers are not explosion proof.

Maybe you've taken care of all of that, but if you haven't, your best bet is to keep the fumes from ever building up.

Thank you for the input. I really appreciate it. My bro I law is convinced that I need an explosion proof exhaust fan. I thought the same as Fred. My power tools are not nor is my outlets I don't plan on letting the fumes build up to that point
I spent the extra money on my heater to have a sealed burner unit , but that's a different story

The funny thing is my wife said the same thing......just start the fan before you start so the fumes don't build up..... Smart woman
