Extended Water Heater Power Off?

Am going on an extended trip in a few months and figured it might save a lot of money to turn off the water heater for the duration.
I realize the answer might be a dead-bang Yes but wanted to make sure I didn't get blindsided by something I hadn't thought of.
The water heater is pretty old so I might be doing it a favor by turning the power off while I'm gone. Probably be a good idea to turn off the water to it also?
There will be heat in the house so I don't have to worry about freeze up.
Any gotchas about turning the power and water supply to it that I haven't considered?
Thanks in advance for any input,

Don't forget to turn off the water to the washing machine as well... or maybe just the whole darn house unless you need to run the sprinklers or something like that.

In my case, I just flip the switch off to the well and run the lowest faucet. Done!
