Hi everyone, new to the forums after lurking for a few days reading opinions on garage sizes, love all the info available here!
So, the wifey and I are very seriously considering buying a house in the Colorado mountains…and we love everything about it except the size of the garage.
It’s a two door garage, about 23’ wide, one side 17’ deep and the other is 19’. My intention for a garage is to have room at minimum for two cars (2014 Mustang and 2016 Acura RDX), a motorcycle, and a rolling toolbox. There’s a shed behind the house for storage, which is good because this garage is way too small for even my intended use case, much less misc stuff.
At some point the house had a punch-out extension and additional decking added to the floor above the garage, and I’m wondering about the feasibility and cost of extending the front of the garage to meet that upper level (approximate 9’ extension). This extension would provide me a total of 26’ depth on one side and 28’ on the other…not huge but I’d be satisfied with those dimensions.
If we do buy this place I’ll begin getting quotes but in the interim I’m curious what any of you think I might expect for a ballpark price on a 9’ extension to both sides of a divided two car garage with a floor overhead. One side of the extension (left side under the deck) would have to be roofed as well because of the house’s wonky shape.
It’s a stick built house with cedar exterior. Thanks for any insights, suggestions, or tips!
