Extending interior wire run using conduit?

I'm adding a 220 sub panel to the garage that just happens to be as far away from the main panel as possible. I have a pull string going through the joist between the first and second floor ran from the main panel to the garage already but the problem is where the run enters the garage. It is at the very top of the wall and not where I want the panel to be.

Can I install a junction box where the wire run enters the garage and then extend the wire run using wall mounted conduit to the location I want the sub panel? I think this would be fine but don't know if I've ever seen this done before and want to make sure I am keeping everything to code.

I am using 2-2-2-4 SER AL as the feeder cable. And just to clarify I want one continuous run from the main panel to sub panel but part of the run will be through the joist and part of it will be through conduit.

SER doesnt need to be in conduit unless subject to damage.

It doesnt sound like its in harms way and if so you can forget the conduit...

I don't really want a hole in my drywall with SER sticking out so the plan was to use a junction box to cover that and the conduit to the sub panel to make everything look nice. Just wan't to make sure I wasn't breaking any codes. Thanks for the help!

To answer your question, yes you can put a junction box on the wall and run conduit the rest of the way.
