I'm about to pull the trigger on a reclaimed poultry barn. These kits include web-style steel trusses, wood girts/purlins, galvanized steel siding for roof and all 4 sides, and 1.5" XPS insulation for the roof and sides. 40x60x12 kit with all this runs around $5500, about half what a similar kit costs new from a local supplier.
My real challenge is that the truss legs are 6' long, C6x10.5 steel channel. My plan is to cut off the C-Channel and replace with 5" schedule 40 pipe for posts and plant them 4' in the ground after a good soak with creosote and case them in concrete.
I thought about just extending the leg with more channel, but I question its strength that route. Anyone tried anything similar or have other ideas?
