Looking for a quality wall mount retractable cord reel. What does everyone use/have?

I didn't know they made a Zilla electric reel too. I have the air hose and love it. I'll have to check into that. Thanks, bert913.

I have a Bayco, its OK. Definitely not heavy duty though.

The spectrum goes from cheap <$100 to very nice industrial units- Reelcraft, Cox.

What's the difference between 100' of wire in the wall and 100' of wire across the floor?

100' wire in the wall will be a 'solid' copper rather than thin gauge 'stranded' which gives greater flexibility but not ideal for carrying the same amount of current. the 100' coiled up in your extension reel will also heat up, so better off lying on the floor!

Mine has been hanging in my garage so long I don't know what brand, how long it is or what gauge it is,
It just works. Lol

Not sure solid versus stranded makes for a valid argument. First off 8 gauge or bigger wire (smaller number) is usually stranded, even in walls. Second, IIRC, good wire strippers have a solid and stranded label for the same hole because stranded is a bit bigger.

One thing that does surprise me, I would have thought that all the hose reel companies would state that you should always unreel the whole spool, but I don't think they do. Should be only a concern when pulling Max amperage for a given guage, but companies being afraid of liability and lawsuits, figured they would all specify this warning.

I will be replacing one of my HF units with the Flexzilla.
I've seen them on ebay around the $85-90 price range.

I've had the flexzilla on my wishlist forever... but the breaker is kind of a turn off. I like my cord real in the middle of the garage ceiling but I don't want to have to reset a breaker 13 feet in the air!
