on my boxes i drill holes in the side where the frame work is and let them sit in there so at the ready..............otherwise just store in a drawer........course this is for my personal tools at home and the box isn't locked up so they stay there year round..........especially helpful for longer ones.........

Most of my extensions are in those drawers, but there are a few I do not have photographed in my metric box as well. I like keeping like drive sizes together and separating them.

I just laid them out so they aren't stacked on top of each other, 1/2" in in one drawer (some 3/8" breaker bars in there I guess)

3/8" and 1/4" in another

any ideas for keeping the drawer liners from sliding?

There new SO liners don't slip. I know they sell them is sets, I don't know if you can buy singles or rolls of the new material.

I have a handfull of extensions. I plug all of them together so they don't scatter all over my small tool box.

Would leaving them plugged together weakens the spring behind the ball? I guess that question also applies to keeping a socket on my ratchet while not being used.

I'll have to check that out, it's a lot worse in other drawers. Something else I forgot, for long extentions (you've probably seen these).

I've seen them screwed in with self drilling screws, but this one is just hanging, so nothing I guess...

Years ago I tried that setup, put a few good scratches in my box and I did away with it.

Can I ask a dumb question? It looks like you have about 50 of the same breaker bar, and another 50 of the same extension.

Why? :headscrat

I don't have these, but I do have their laydown socket holders at work. They work quite well. My work tool box has shallow draws and these keep the sockets from rolling around every time I open the drawer.I am sure the extension holders would work very well.

I do have to admit they are a bit pricey.

Space robbers. I need every last inch in my roll cab cause there will not be any up grading to larger boxes. Those eat way to much space, it is **** like that makes guys constantly buy bigger and more expensive boxes.

I wish I could give you a good answer. I inherited these tools from my grandfather who passed away. We would go to flea markets, sales, etc., and buy anything SO. After so many lots of tools with them in there, they start to add up. Those must have been the most common.

Easy answer, he lucked out. Grandpa bought them all and he was lucky enough to inherit them! I wonder if steve is old enough to adopt me! :lol_hitti

Hey, it's all good - I was just curious.

I can understand 50 different ratchets - it's when I see the same ratchet 10+ times that I start to get curious. 2, maybe 3, sure - gotta have a spare, and a spare for the spare... :)

I put most of mine on an extra socket rail. I had the rail and several extra 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 clips. So I put all the smaller ones on the rail. Not a great idea, but it does keep everything pretty stable.

The Snap- On KR1000 box has a special storage hatch on the top for long extentions and pry bars. It wasn't really well thought out, if you actually use the top for anything, or get a top box it becomes useless. I would post a picture but I dont plan on removing my top box, heavy bustard that it is, you'll just have to take my word on it!:bounce:

Seeing some of these drawers with like 50 of the same tools, kinda reminds me of movie "The Shinning" when Shelley Duvall looked at her husbands stack of papers which all had "All work and no play, makes Johnny a dull boy." covering the whole page. Did any of you guys spend any long winters at a lodge with a hedge maze??? And if so, I never want to see you with an axe in your hands. That would totally freak me out.. :lol_hitti

I had them on clip strips but it was a pain to pop them loose.
Laying them on the thin wood blocks with grooves cut lets you pick them up easily even when your fingers are greasy. Also easy to put them back in order and to see if any are missing. This is an older shot, I have picked up a few more extensions and it’s now full, without the blank areas.
Even have some of the ‘flashlight’ extensions in there now.

I bought a cheap set of socket rails (from the clearance tool bin at napa) and put 1/4, 3/8. and 1/2 pegs all on one rail and layed it in a drawer. It holds the extensions secure enough to keep them organized but loose enough to just pick one up.

I haven't got a drawer long enough for my long extensions...
that's to say I hadn't... I haven't offered them up to my latest box drawers yet.
But apart from the very longs I love the idea from some of you of socket rails.
Great idea from this forum yet again !
