I have been looking for something similar and I'm thinking of making my own out of a block of plastic like 2" wide 1" think and 12"-18" long and drilling holes in it to fit my extensions

Look into Ernst, they offer magnetic rails, magnetic mounts for regular rails and face and side mount extension/ratchet holding clips. With one rail, one face mount holder and two of the side mount holders, you could mount 6 extensions per rail.

Might want to email with them and see what combo would work if that seems up your alley (or if they could offer you rails without socket clips).

I still need to be able to move the cart around the shop. I don't think magnets alone would be secure enough, but I could be wrong.

Ernst sells pretty much the same exact thing I linked to. Thats what I'm looking for, but with a lot more spaces. I use hansen trays, so I don't need the rails.

The Ares and Olsa rails are both interchangeable with the clips. You can either get a magnetic one and stagger the extensions holders on the rail, or screw/rivet a regular rail and stagger the holders

I have extensions on VIM Magrail TL's, with 1/4" posts as dividers. They stay put very well, stay straight and organized, and use space very efficiently. The VIM Magrail's are a bit pricey, but they're damn near ideal, and not just for sockets.

Should be a wider Magrail TL soon. Three "T" channels for pegs to align tools. Longer pegs for placing wrenches on edge to maximize space.

That's a great idea, I have a couple rows where I have two rails nearly side-by-side. I like the idea of longer pegs too. For what it's worth, I bought a bag of the lifter posts, and they work great for wrenches, pliers etc. I'm curious to see what the longer pegs will be like.

I saw your user name and your post history. I see you designed the MagrailTL products. Well done, sir. They are one of my favorite tool organization products.

I think this would be a good option.
