No, it does not matter, they will work exactly the same except you have more money in your wallet.:)

What??? Are you serious???? Everyone knows that Craftsman extensions will snap in half if you just set them next to a bolt.

Seriously... I don't have any Snap On extensions... most of mine are Craftsman Kobalt or Proto. And then i have some Taiwanese specials that I really like because they have that nice knurling. And- I have never broken an extension. Ever. Enjoy your Craftsmans.

i was almost tempted to get the harbor freight ones today but remembered all my bad experiences with cheap tools. those extensions seem to have a loose grip on sockets.

Hi Guys,
I have the Craftsman extensions, both the regular type and the locking type, for years and they work fine. True, it would be great if they put knurling on their extensions. I have a couple of SK extensions with the knurling and it comes in handy.

Knurling...isn't that the sport where you push a big rock on the ice and sweep in front of it with a push broom?;)

I've broken two 1/2 drive extensions. Both of which I have no clue who made them, but I'm pretty sure they were cheap ones. My Craftsman ones are holding up just fine.

I have lots of both and even use them together sometimes. .

I hear that that's illegal in 47 states.

For that matter, is there any reason to not use an impact wrench on a normal extension...if that's true, why not just own impact extensions?

You know, that would be kind of a cool kit. Some sort of box with a zillion extensions, all 1 inch apart in length or something....1/4" hex, 1/4 square, 3/8, 1/2, along with a bunch of conversion pieces.

If you have ever had a chrome splinter, You would never use a non impact socket again. :bounce:

Makes sense...between the flexing of the socket + holding it in your hand.

So...how come sockets are chromed instead of power coated or something similar? There must be some sort of anti corrosion stuff they could apply that would work better than some material that flakes off.

I have a set of Craftsman 3/8" drive extensions with very nice knurling. For some reason they say "MATCO" on them.;)

I am almost tempted to purchase some sort of knurling machine and add my own knurling to all my extension... and perhaps "other" stuff....

you'll need a lathe first ... then a knurling tool ... then you will need to strip the plating ... then you're all set.

Extensions (especially 3 inch 3/8 drive) are one item I have PLENTY of.

All of my 1/2 extensions are impact extensions (I have the SK set). The only two that I have that are not impact are an Armstrong I got for free and a Snap On I bought used.

In 3/8, I bought the 4 piece Craftsman set when it goes on sale for 9.99. Cant beat that! I have some other brands. I bought MATCO impact extensions, simple because craftsman doesnt make a 10 inch impact extension in 3/8. I also bought a snap On Wobble extension.

My 1/4 stuff is mostly SK with one snap on Wobble.

Interestingly enough, I was talking to my snap on guy about extensions, and he told me that he hardly owns any snap on extensions in his own box, aside from odd ball ones like wobbles and LONG ones. He says snap on makes their long extensions by welding several short pieces together before being machined which is why snap on's long extensions remain very straight unlike other brands. They are also very meaty around the drive end so they take impact abuse.
