What does "best" mean to you in this case? Value, quality, resell value, warranty, chrome, strength, socket retention, etc.

These are photos of my Koken 1/4" drive wobble-fix extensions. Superb fit & finish, amazing knurling, flawless matte chrome finish. The extension I took the closeups of has been used fairly extensively, that's why there's a bit of dirt on the socket end.

+1 for the Kokens. They also have plain extensions if you don't like wobble.

I've been very satisfied with my Gearwrench wobbles, I've put some force on them with the 1/4" snappy flex hard handle and they have taken it well.

I'm only a DIY'er though so mine only see abuse once in a blue moon not daily.

Easco, Allen, K-D, Thorsen, Giller, KAL, Craftsman, S-K, Proto, Blackhawk, Armstrong, Indestro......................

As long as they are American-made, they're all good.

The new SK locking versions are very nice. Not sure on the price though.

I bought the knurled MAC ones for around 100 bucks recently, mainly because I liked how they have the knurling at the very top (like those kokens)
...and they were one of the last "made in USA" mac tools I could find on the truck, lol

If your looking for chrome just make sure they are knurled... Past that they are not a precision tool. I have snap on sk Armstrong Mac gearwrench matco craftsman etc. All are knurled except the craftsman, they all work. My favorite are the so,Armstrong locking or the Mac wobbles

haven't tried all of those, but my Thorsen, Giller, Craftsman, Herbrand, KAL, Proamerica, S-K, and Indestro models all work just dandy.

I particularly like the 53M Thorsen 6".

This is one of those things where any decent usa or even taiwan will be as good as another. Not like they get a cheater pipe and pretty low precision tool. Knurling is nice though. I have a few brands from SK to Craftsman, wright and even stanley. All work great. PS ... I would hate the wobble end as my main set. I have a few...but only use them when really needed. Find them sloppy and a hassle otherwise. And once when applying a lit of torque on one in an engine no less,,it sheered off at the cut. Fell off,,,,maybe in the engine never to be seen again. If you are not too picky...I can throw you a great used set together for cheap.

HF has a 9 piece set of wobble extensions that go on sale for $10 or $12. I bought two sets to get a really long extension for one job, 2x 24", worked fine.

I also really like my set of 4 Snapon 12" etx with a shallow socket on the end, 10-14 mm. Goes places a normal etx and socket won't fit in.

Kobalt's Taiwan made 1/4" extensions are nice. I bought a set a couple of years ago, use them everyday. The knurling is nice and the chrome is as good as anything else i own.
Pretty reasonably priced too if I remember right.

I have a set of Popular Mechanics brand 1/4" extensions from the evil Walmart I bought almost 17 years ago. They work fine for DIY use. They are knurled, chrome is smooth. I can't complain about them. I'd consider any name brand ones that I could warranty easily today if I was looking for some. 1/4" drive isn't going to be subjected to a lot of force anyway.

I have never broken a 1/4" socket, ratchet, or extension.

Smaller nuts don't seem to need as much torque to install or remove.

That being said, I have a combination of Craftsman, Husky, no-name generics, and HF Pittsburgh.

Between the four, I like the HF best.

I have a wide mix of Proto, SK, and Snap-on. Probably a few Craftsman mixed in too. I've owned many other brands, including unmarked import ones. I don't see any difference to speak of between any of them. They all work. I prefer the Proto and Snap-on due to higher quality of finish and chrome, but that's a pretty superficial reason to like them. Some of them have knurled shanks and some don't, I don't really benefit from that feature much.

I'd shop for a feature you like: How the detent works, wobble head, knurled shank, range of sizes, how flat they roll across the table, whatever fits your fantasy. Or shop for the lowest priced one that doesn't have obvious defects.

They are excruciatingly gorgeous, though... mmm, dat **** knurling...

I have a very nice Craftsman set of locking 1/4" extensions that have been VERY handy. Non-wobble, though. Not sure where they were made, but I do know I wouldn't have bought them if they were made in China.
