Square drive extensions on impact wrenches? Not sure what otherwise you might be referring to.

You generally don't use an extension on an impact unless you need it for access. You always want to use a impact extension, and not a regular extension.

Some impacts have an extended shank. Its generally for wheel work on trucks where the extra length is needed, and allows for a flip over socket to be used also.

Air hose whips? Really should use them on air hammers and pneumatic rivet guns (aircraft) to help eliminate breakage of the fitting at the gun. Otherwise, as noted above, gets the bulky coupler away from the tool.

I only use impact extensions on my impacts now.Use of chrome extension bars and sockets on an impact shorten the life of the impact doing damage and wears out the anvil prematuraly.Plus if any tool dealer sees any signs of hammering marks on a chrome extension including chrome sockets used on an impact, voids the warranty called misuse.

Most whips have a swivel making tight clearance maneuverability possible.
