Seems I am forever hand twisting an extension on my 3/8 drive to run a bolt down. None of my extensions have knurling, so I'm slipping all over the place.

What are some options for good knurled extensions? I am already aware of Snap-on. Who else makes good ones? I like sharp knurling, not mushy rounded fake knurling. Thanks.

Looks like SK has some, but I think Snap-On is hands down the best out there. Try to find some of the older style since they seem to be thinner diameter - easier to twist with your fingers and easier to fit in tighter spots.

SK has beefy knurling. It doesnt look the best, but its "grippyer" than snap on. The S-O knurling seems to not be enough to grab onto with greasy hands.

I like my mac extension knurling.. they have them at the top, middle, and end. If I remember right, the middle section is spread over pretty good. I lost my 6" 1/4 extension.. and I'm pretty dissapointed about that :(

Not sure if they're available in the US, but these ones by Koken are great for what you're talking about. Hard to make out exactly in the pic but they have ridges on the knurled part to make it easier to grip

If I want to turn an extension by hand, I use extensions with handles ..

Both my Snap On and SK extensions have great knurling, so I wouldn't hesitate to purchase either one.

I REALLY like my SK locking extensions, even more so than my Matco set.

I would say the Macs with the handles are great if you turn the extensions a lot. Personally I have both the S-K's and the Snap-on's and they both work fine so the moral is buy whatever you can find cheaper.

The MAC ones are the best I've used. They are the only US manufacturer that actually puts the knurling where you need it most, around the female square drive area. The Toptul hex around the square drive iis also sweet but, they don't offer that style in regular extensions just the wobble plus type. Those Koken extensions look pretty neat with the raised knurled sections but, I haven't used Koken. I wouldn't buy an extension without knurling.

I have SK extensions and the knurling seemed really weak to me. Too smooth for any real grip.

I've gotten some recently made new Snap-On extensions and they all seem to have the knurling now, while my old ones are smooth; I really like them and they are helpful! Snap-On is the only brand I own/use with this feature...

Is it just me or does the fit and finish of the Kokens remind any body else of 1950's and 60's US made tools? Lets keep up with the times here...

Yes it's just you, I know of no US tool company that has the range of
Ko-ken's socketry, actually I no of none worldwide.

From whitworth to Torx EPL & LHS the range is staggering Ko-ken are way ahead of the rest.

Those Koken look sweet. They look like wobble plus extensions.

They are called Wobble fix and were invented & pat by Ko-ken way back,
there are some so called modern tool companies paying royalties to Ko-ken
for the design.
Then again there are some tool companies who copy
and don't give a SH one T.

:+1: I bought a 1/4" and 3/8" drive set of the VIM locking extensions and I find myself using them all the time.

The 1/4" seem in short supply now. I have not used this vendor.

My knurled extensions are mostly Matco. The knurling is nice and "grippy" compared to the other ones I have (older Proto and assorted eastern imports).
