Exterior and temps

At some point I would like to finish the exterior of my garage (concrete block).

Does anyone know of an exterior paint or coating that has thermal properties of any sort? Keeping out the cold is my main concern, I can control the hotter temps with my portable swamp cooler.

If no such thing, what exterior color would work best to retain heat or resist cold? Far as I understand things white would reflect heat and get dirty way too easily.

I’m not asking about the interior since there are so many surfaces (concrete block) that I can not access without moving lots of shelving and other items.

Thank you,
L

If you do coat it, then you will always have the recoating to deal with. In yourhigh elevation AZ sun, the coating will take a beating and will require repeat coating to stay looking nice due to the high UV. I have the same issues here in NM, I am at 7100 ft.

I am not aware of any paint type coating that will add any insulating properties. You can affect the heat absorbed by the color and the radiant properties of the coating.

Sounds like your wall is block, and for the best lasting solution stucco may be something to consider. It will smooth the wall and give a uniform appearance nicer than the block. You can make it any color you want and it is much better for UV reistance than paint.

Try these guys:

http://spicoatings.com/products/supertherm/faq/

It's a ceramic coating that is developed as a paint, stucco, roof coating, all kinds of interesting applications. I believe it is the product where they have a torch on one side and a guy holding his hand on the other. Pretty amazing.

Disclaimer: I have not used this product but have followed applications on different projects including aluminum travel trailers and houses. If I had the bucks I'd do the inside of my roof with it.
