Brand new to this forum and enjoying it so much already. I feel like a kid in a candy store looking at some of these garages, shops, and workspaces.

My wife and I just bought our first home and lucky enough it has a garage. Nothing great, just a single car space, but there's enough room at the back for me to frame out a modest workspace. I do a lot of repairs on musical instruments and amplifiers, and build guitars. My little corner of the garage has a very dilapidated exterior door that doesn't close tightly and will need to be replaced regardless. My thought was to replace it with a sliding, barn-style door instead to add a little character and maybe make it a little easier to bring large materials into the shop (sheet goods, etc...). Is this a possible retrofit?

Anything is possible.
But barn style sliders are hard to weather seal.
A patio style slider or french door will be factory made and much tighter.

wpasternack.......Welcome to garage Journal. Post up some pics of the garage, and post up some pics of your projects. We really like pics, plus it help[s to answer questions at times.

Ad far as a sliding barn door......if it's exposed to the weather, I'd say no, but would rather go with a set of double style French doors instead. That's not saying that you an use a slider, but you would need to have rubber flaps to keep the wind and weather out, and normally the bottom of sliders are not fastened to anything, so they can move in and out.

If you're not keen on the French Doors, what about an overhead door? Do you have room to mount tracks overhead? Overhead doors come in all different sizes anymore, and will seal much better than a slider. Just an idea.

Again....welcome, and hope you hang around for a long while. And let's see some pics of those instruments!!!!
