I’ve got a short (1 1/2 to 3 foot high) exterior stone wall with a concrete hand troweled cap. Totals about 150 sq ft of cap area. Cap was in poor condition with lots of cracks and poorly done, miscolored prior owner patches. I’ve wire brushed the top, removed all loose areas, cleaned out the cracks and washed it off.
Then I used Sacrete Top N Bond to fill in the cracks and, in 1/2” thick lifts per Sacrete instructions, to fill in broken/loose areas. Followed that with a brush coat of Top N Bond over the entire cap to give it a fairly uniform appearance.
I’m thinking I now should apply a sealer to reduce the amount of water soaking through the cap into the stone wall (a few stones are slate, which seem to not like water too much. Obviously oil/solvent resistant qualities won’t be needed. Anybody used something that worked for this kind of situation?
