I am searching for the best type of light for the outside of my building. I don't need the area lit up enough to perform surgery, but would like the most efficient option.

There will be one light centered on the building above my overhead door. I will be hanging it about 16' from the ground on the side of the building.

Would I be better to get a pole light, a wall mount light, or another style of light?

I would go LED, I hung some RAB SlimXX on the front of a commercial store front and they are looking/working great. I think the RAB's have a 5 year warranty. They have Slim ** for different wattages and heights.

Any commercial wallpack is what you're looking for. You can find styles from very plain to quite fancy....just depends on your preference and wallet. Most all the name brands are good quality, and yes, they are designed to "shoot out and down".
I prefer the style that does not have a glass front, because you can get blinded if you are approaching the building. This is referred to as "full cutoff".
Good luck,
CD

I've used RAB Slim wall packs a number of times on commercial projects myself, and the clients have been happy with them.
