Hey guys, just wanted to bounce a few things off of you in regards to installing exterior lighting on the new shop.

It is a metal building that is already sheathed and insulated in the interior. Interior electrical is all surface mounted, so I will have to run mc into a surface mounted box or something andru n nm-b through the wall into the fixture. Since I dont have sheathing on the exterior, what will the best way to do this? J block with an integrated enclosure?

Only downside to that will be that I have nowhere to affix the interior portion, due to no sheathing other than metal.

All im looking for is an exterior light by the door and a few flood lights.

Thanks!

Perhaps you could mount wood blocks to the inside of the building that would be held in place by screws driven through the wall panels from the outside

Would have worked had I not sheathed already.

Kind of gpt ahead of myself.

I guess I could use the hole saw and cut the metal on the outside and affix the light to the stud.

Or I could surface mount a slimline circular box and secure it to the side. The only thing I dont like about that is that it will stick out too far. I really like the look of the fixture mounted to the j block with enclosure as everything looks much cleaner.

I've mounted the box to the inside, and sandwiched the siding between it and the fixture. Did this for the man door light. Just need to silicon the top of the fixture. Looks clean ...
