Exterior sheathing

I'm in the planning stages of building my garage which will be 24x24 with 8 foot walls. Now I worked as a carpenter in my younger years, 30 years ago and some things I don't remember. My biggest question is if I build an 8 foot wall using 92 5/8 studs with 2 top plates and 1 will plate, that comes to 97 1/8 inches. Now I know with sheetrock, the ceiling will take up half an inch and baseboard will hide any other gap. But on an exterior wall there's no ceiling or baseboard. So how does one sheath an wall that will be 97 1/8 inches tall using 4x8 sheets of plywood?

You allow it to over hang below the bottom plate so that your wall naturally follows the perimeter of your floor...

If you have a soffit coming over horizontally from the rafter or truss tails, that might cover up part of it. It would be better to encapsulate both top plates in the nail pattern but it works for the bottom it will work for the top. You could theoretically cut the 1-1/2" strip but it won't do much other than be a spacer.

It won't matter if the plywood doesn't extend all the way to the top or bottom. If it's all the way up and you use trusses the tails would more than likely hit it.

Set the top 3/4" down and you'll have plenty to nail to. Run the sheets vertically so there are no unsupported edges.

ETA- Are you siding over the plywood?
