I am running 1ga copper to a detached garage through 2" conduit. I am also planning a whole house generator hookup via an ATS. The evolved plan is to run 3/0 copper from the existing meter to the ATS mounted on adjacent chimney. Then come out the ATS with 3/0 cu to a 200A outdoor main breaker with feed throughs. Then 3/0 cu out the feed thrus, back to the meter, and through the existing 2" conduit to the house 200A panel. Also a 125A breaker on the outdoor panel will feed 1ga cu to the detached garage 125A main breaker panel.
I'd like to do all/most of the wiring around the ATS and outdoor main breaker panel in a Nema 3R wiring trough to simplify the routing & pulling and make it look cleaner. see attached diagram.
Questions:
1) Is this code? I think it is, but i'm not finding much in my research.
2) the troughs I'm finding have knockouts on the bottom, but they are not the size or location I'll need. can I just cut holes right over the existing knock outs? or how does that work?
3) for the conduit run back to the meter, can I put both sets of 3/0 feeders into the same 2" conduit, or do I have to separate them? I think its 6 wires plus a ground.
4) is there a better way to do this?
