I think there was a recent thread here, but I bought a set of Allen-brand E-torx sockets, made in the USA, for $20.99 at Fleet Farm. The one socket I used worked great...

I would get the wiha over the gw e torx if price is not a concern. The wiha is a really good e torx socket. But if you do not want to spend to much the GW will work. I could not justified the price of the wiha set for the amount of e torx I run into on my bmw and vw. So I went and got a BGS torx/e torx for 30 bucks. But they are not available in the US.

Why is that? I have no preference over either one as I have not owned any of either brand that's why I am asking.

I only live in Germany, I am an america. The mac is nice but think the etorx are made in asia, the wiha is made in germany. But wiha has been dealing with torx, etorx and torx plus allot longer then mac. Just look at their torx bits. They are the hardest of any torx bits I have used. That includes SO, Matco, Wera, armstrong, and couple of others. Wiha just knows what they are doing with torx

Okay thanks for elaborating. If I buy from amazon does wiha still honor warranty?

I wish wiha offered 14mm and 17mm hex sockets as I wanted to try theirs but they stop at 10mm.

If you want value, I would pm Ash if he can get you a bgs set of torx/etorx. They work well on my bmw and vw. this is the bgs set I got, it covers everything I have ran into on my bmw and vw.

Actually I am a big craftsman tool guy and hugh on proto. I do like germany tools. But torx is where the germany tool company excel. They have used them longer.

i know, i know - i was just saying this was going to be a predictable answer from you given your other posts - i wasn't going to be surprised by your answer as you are a huge wiha fan to the max

I like their products as well, especially their heavy duty screwdrivers, but don't don't see it the same way on all their products

I got the Lisle set 8+ yrs ago when I did the headgasket on my E34. Still have them. For as infrequently as I've needed them over the years, they are decent quality for the money.

Actually if you even better, it will cost more money hazet, gedore makes really good etorx.

Wiha strong suit are torx and hex items, vde/eds tools and their screwdrivers.

Yes wiha honors amazon sales. Nice thing about amazon is you can always pull up your receipt if you need it.

Need to get a external torx set for some bolts on my e30 bmw. Looking at sets and not sure which way to go. Normally for sockets cman work good but with hex and torx I have usually had horrible luck.

The Craftsman external torx sockets are actually very good, especially for what they cost. The problem with them is they dont include all the sizes.

One word of caution if you go used is watch out for old Snap-On E-Torx sockets because they were very shallow, to the point where they cause problems in some of todays applications.

think that is a set of lowes kolbalt with the ball head. Picked them up on sale a while back for 18 dollar I think. Nice set of 7, craftsman only had a 6 pc set.

Just do not torque them to much, it is a ball end, it will snap if you push them to much. I use them to set the fastener and finish them with a none ball end set I have at work form wiha.

Bgs and vim? Never heard of these brands are they good? Do they compare to wiha quality wise?

I have a set from tooltopia I bought. Its all torx sockets you'll need, torx, torx+, tamperproof torx, and the etorx. Its OTC brand and was 60 if I remember right. They have been great for me. Use em on my impact all the time and haven't broken 1 yet. The best thing is no skipped sizes like the cman ones.

the vim set is nice. Made in taiwan like the bgs set I got. For the money it covers everything you would need. If you do not have regular torx and security torx already. I would get the vim. The regular torx do not take as much torque as the wiha. But it is not junk, they are pretty good quality.

I do have a gearwrench torx set I got on the sears clearance sell but have never used them so unsure on quality.

If they are gw from taiwan, they are about the same quality as the vim. I would not worry about the gw set you have, they will work just as well as the vim.
