Are you changing the cylinder head or working on the trans / oil pan?

I have the craftsman set and it works fine. The trans bolts really are not that tight. They have worked fine for me for the last 7 years that I have owned numerous E30s.

Dropping the trans soon to do a clutch. Was going to change my axle boots soon and new bolts are torx. Figured might as well get a nice set as they are becoming more common.

If you want a really nice and high end set, the wiha. If you want bang for you buck, the vim. For the same price as the mac, you get more with the same quality.

A few years ago I picked up a small set from the SK company and the quality is very nice.

I do not plan on ever buying sk seems like they are too hit or miss quality wise. Going to go Wiha I think, unless I get a killer deal on a snap on set. Thanks guys for the help.

I think you will be happy with them, they are really nicely made sockets.

I've been looking/thinking about a set of Etorx as well.

Today, I went around to look for some and was surprised with the prices!

At Sears they were 45.99

At CarQuest they had a set at #1.49

At Napa it was 63.99

I think I'm gonna go back to Napa and get their set as it looked like it was the better set compared to the rest.

Anybody use the Napa set?

Edit: the Napa set looks like the GW set but only 10 piece.

If the napa looks like the gw but less sockets why not get the gw for half the price?

Need to get a external torx set for some bolts on my e30 bmw. Looking at sets and not sure which way to go. Normally for sockets cman work good but with hex and torx I have usually had horrible luck.

How are the gearwrench?

Or should I spend the extra on Wiha

Or maybe a used snap on set? Trying to stay under $80.

The Gearwrench ones you have linked work great, good value too.

There is no bit. Heyco is a high quality manufacturer of tools. I really like Heyco. Wiha doesn't make sockets. The wiha regular torx sockets are Tiawan sourced, as I recall, with the German Wiha torx insert bit. I don't have the bit sockets, just the Wiha bits.

I tried to order the GW but they don't ship to Guam.

Well, I ran into a parts store to get some hoses earlier and saw some etorx set on the wall by Performance Tool, ended up buying them for $10. If it *****, i'll look for another set.

I got the Lisle set 8+ yrs ago when I did the headgasket on my E34. Still have them. For as infrequently as I've needed them over the years, they are decent quality for the money.
