Extra Long 1/2 Ratchets

I'm on the fence for these sets, keep seeing really bad reviews and really good reviews...

I have one of these. Pretty good tool for the money. I used it a few times to make the job easier but the first time I used it because I really needed that much extra length I found that it had a lot of flex. I had a 2 1/4" proto crowfoot on it loosing an over tightened JIC hydraulic fitting. It was bending quite a bit but it did not break. I switched to a breaker bar and a cheater pipe and got the fitting loose with less effort.

Still, these ratchets are worth the $40.00. Not every job they are good for requires you to test the limits of them. I got mine as a temporary until I cough up the dough for a snap-on.

I've got one of the harbor freight extendables and the HF 18" flex. Both are very nice for the money. The flex one's ratcheting mechanism is close to as good as my 88t armstrongs. Only downside is it doesn't lock.

I don't think that one is made in Taiwan.

My longest is a 16" Proto 5450. With only 24 teeth it's a real beast, but very smooth. No room in my tool bag for anything longer....

i have pneumatics...just dont have 1/2" lines to supply a 3/4" gun the proper air to break the bolt...so when you dont have air...gotta do it the old fashioned way

Must be a very large crank bolt on that bad boy to need 3/4" drive.

Those Honda crank bolts are notoriously tight.

My van has one that's similarly tight. M18 thread. My 24" ratchet won't budge it.

A good 1/2" impact should be able to get the Honda Cranks out.

Also there are some new thicker impact sockets for that job. More weight transfers more force to the crank bolt.

I have only one, a Snap-on, and find myself needing it only rarely, being an amateur. It has been no trouble. It has come in handy lately under a truck and without a lift, where I had to reach up quite a way.

HF is notorious for keeping all the Chinese stock up front of the peg. Next time, might be better to completely sift through their inventory before you make your way to the cashier
