Looking for a extra long (longer than 4" shaft, 8" overall) insulated screwdriver. Must have 1/8" flat/regular cabinet tip (non shouldered). The regular ones will do, but the extra length will make it easier to work on the terminal blocks in the small deep cabinets that we access at work.

I googled and searched Klein, Ideal, Wera, Wiha and no dice.

A Proto Professional Classic Yellow Handle Model #9636C----13" overall length----10" shaft----3/16" blade width...

This screwdriver is not insulated, however high voltage shrink tubing should eliminate that problem...

The tip would have to be narrowed 1/16" (1/32" per side)...

I used these, modified as stated, while working on large radio transmitters, while I was in the Air Force...Maximum voltage in these units was 27.5KV...never made any "Lightning"...or sparks, for that matter...

I also "made" a tuning screwdriver out of a wire coat hanger (stop laughing), pounded a blade on one end, suitably filed to the necessary size, with a double 90 degree (crank) bend in the other end...again high voltage shrink tubing was utilized...worked like a champ...

As far as your search goes...I think you're looking for "Rocking Horse Manure"...you're going to be disappointed, me thinks...

Thank you very much for your reply. We are using a Stanley extra long (11" overall) with electrical tape on the shaft. We have done this to many screwdrivers for 20 years, but wondered if there was a proper tool out there. I really like the heat shrink tubing idea.

edit: it is for 125VDC most of the time.

Add heat shrink tubing

That is a Craftsman Professional Screwdriver, which, I believe has been discontinued...however...

Sears outlet has some of these...

That would solve your problem, without having to modify anything...

The High Voltage shrink tubing in magic stuff...

"Rocking Horse Manure" ain't as rare as I thought...
