hey guys i find my self caught between two choices when looking for extra long combination wrenchs. those 2 happen to be snap on and matco, snap on are nice and very tuff but man dislike the thinness of there wrenches and since these will be use for very stubborn bolts that kinda shy's me away from them a little bit. as for the matco i have no experience with them and would like to get some imput, the one thing i can say for the matco xtra long combo wrenchs is that they offer a 21mm that is 15 inchs long.... awsome for alignments im sure. ive been getting by with my harbor freight set but looking to step into something nicer and stronger. the only other thing i noticed and im not sure if it is still true but the so xtra longs dong come in flank drive + just regular flank drive if im not mistaken. anyways let me know what you guys think i should go for and if there's another set of awesome wrenches i should be considering

I don't know if you can get all of the same sized offerings or not, but you may be able to pick up an Armstrong XL combo wrench set cheap off ebay, etc which should be the same as what you'd get from Matco. For the XL wrenches I'd probably go with Matco/Armstrong over the Snap On. And I think you are right about the xl Snap On wrenches not having flank drive plus.

Do you actually need the open ends or are you just looking for a longer wrench option? If the latter it doesnt get much better than these.

Long enough for the leverage to be handy in most situations, as opposed to "High performance" length which are situational, and the extremely useful ratcheting feature.

I dont believe Armstrongs have off corner engagement on the open ends, the Matcos' do.

The craftsman full polish are really nice, same as Armstrong. Actually identical, i happen to have both of them.

If you want some extra long combo wrenches that are easy on your hands, look at Cornwell. They're very hard to get but you'll be thanking yourself later.

I have the Matco MCLxxM2 w set (**=8-19), 12 pt, and frankly, unless I need a short one, I never use other wrenches, and I have SK, CM, TOPTL ,sets, and some SO regulars . These are just long ones though, not the XLs. Regular auto/truck/farm machinery use for over 10 years, no problems.

I have the flank drive plus wrenches, standard length. I do alignments everyday. ND is a very rusty state, and I have NEVER rounded any jam nut with a fdp wrench. I all but refuse to heat them when they are very stuck. I can count on one hand in the last 5 years I have heated parts to get them to move. I think the temper of the steel can be comprimised. So what I am getting at is that the fdp wrences are the only way to go for alignments. I will use a cheater for the really stubborn ones. These wrenches have taken it all. The extra leverage could come in handy once in awhile......but I feel the extra grip is more usefull. Some vehicles are low and make it hard to get a standard wrench in there to break the jam nut loose. I can hang my 290 lbs **** on my 18 mm open end. I recomend a high quality standard length wrench first. I have not had good results with matco wrenches. While I agree the snap on wrenches are not the most comfortable, they give me the best performance. If my hands are sore that day, I have been known to put a red rag in my hand for some cushion.
Just giving my experience as an alignment guy who went through a few other wrench sets before finally going with the snap on.

I recently bought a set of the klutch extra long metric combos from Northern tool. 10-22 mm with no skips plus a 24mm. have only used them a little so far but I really like them. they are not usa made but were in my budget. have always had good luck with the tools from northern. they were more expensive then the long reach set at HF but seem to be better quality ( plus they have the 16 and 18 that HF always seems to omit )
