Looking for some extra long - 400-450mm flat/raised ring spanners sometimes called gearbox spanners or aviation spanners. CAM and AUX belt on my van are down the side of the wing panel and although i can get them with a combi and a cheater bar its prone to slipping - the tensioners ****** tight.

All i seem to find are Tool truck brands $$$$ 150GBP or more , or cheap cheap like bergan - 20 quid for a set - doesnt seem to be much in between. my experiances with bergan tools is the sizings not very good - which on a long multi point ring spanner makes it useless. Will butcher some old combis i have before i give them any more money !

got about 70GBP to spend - if it gets me a decent set. BUT not if 70 quid gets me a rebranded bergan set.

any recomendations - that i might be able to get in uk.

i need a 15,16, 17 and 19 at a minimum

something along those lines , the mac ones look good but the 15mm is non negotiable - i need my alternator belt off when i get home from here to change out alternator and steering pump bearings - sounds like someone filled them with sand.

hacking up some old spanners and welding onto a bar is a back up if i dont find anything.

i must say i like the look of the sealey premier spanners - which are on special at 50 bucks for the set. they look nothing like the bergans so i might take a punt on them - i dont see them getting heavy use like my combis

Go to ebay uk and do a search for Sealey AK6311

They are the 6 piece professional series from Sealey, much better than the Bergen or the
Seigen cheap ones. They are a good middle of the road quality and although not Snap-On
quality still have a lifetime warranty.

There are a couple of sellers at the moment selling the whole 6 piece set for only £50
They normally go for around the £80 mark.... The RRP is around £150
I've been thinking of picking up a set myself.

Sizes include 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19mm

Old timers called them "tappet wrenches". Not many know what a tappet is anymore !

Yes, for a skinny flat opened end wrench but for what the OP is describing he seems to want a zero degree high performance/extra long box end wrench. I think by flat he meant he doesn't want an angled offset.

rico - good man - those do look good.

FFX are doing them for 47 quid free postage and they will be home for me on thursday :D

Skin - your right its long ring spanners with zero offset that i want - i have about an inch clearance between my inner wing/strut mount and my pulleys - a normal combi wrench will fit with the open end , but when you stick a cheeter bar on and lever on the tensioner (as its very highly sprung) its prone to slipping off.

im sure the sealey will cover me for what i need - im not taking off alternators all day every day but when i do i want to do it right - and anyway - if it arrives and its a poor fit out the box like a set of bergan impact sockets it was bequithed with then they will be sent back.
