Over the weekend I was changing a high prsssure power steering line on my 2002 Cadillac Deville...There was a 10mm nut securing the line to the the engine, and there was only about an inch between the nut and the frame.....I was able to get the nut on and off with the use of my SO long handle wrench..I was barely able to do this and I was wondering if any tool comapny makes a set extra long handle wrenches, as another 2-3 inches would have made the job easier...THanx in advanve..

Armstrong makes what they call Extra Long Combo wrenches. I dunno how they compare length-wise with the Snappys... I always wanted to see a comparison between the four lengths of Armstrong, the three lengths of SKs, the three lengths of Snap On, and maybe Proto, Wright and Williams as well.

I have Snap-On 0-degree box wrenches. They're super nice, compact and STRONG. Very nice, just expensive.

Also have some Armstrongs -- the ones like Matco's (and maybe other companies...) with one regular box end, and one ratcheting box end. They're pretty nice themselves, but I still prefer the Snap Ons over them.

As long combos go, though I don't own any Snap-Ons to compare them to, I do have Armstrongs in larger sizes. I love them.

Idk if these would help but EZ-red makes a set of super long ratcheting wrenches. One of favorite tools so far. Use them all the time

Power Steering Line = NO WAY TO USE THE BOX END.

Sorry for the caps, but ya'll are forgetting the original question. To get power steering lines off you must use the open end!

he was trying to remove a hose clip securing the hose to the engine, not the hose fitting attaching the hose to the pump or the rack.

All the truck brands have extra-long combination wrenches and then you have Armstrong too.

The extra long Armstrong wrenches seem to be about the same length as the Snap-On long wrenches, at least in the 10mm size. If you want a longer "wrench" you may have to use a crowfoot open or flare nut head on a breaker bar.

Didn't have enough room...There is only about an inch of room...I was able to get it off with my long SO, but it was a pain in the ***.. I had to hold the closed end with two fingers while I used the open end on the nut....Like I said another two-three inches, it would have been easier...

Unless I am mistaken, the Matco box/flex-head ratcheting wrenches are the longest snakes in the grass.

Or maybe their zero degree offset wrench sets.

The Matco Kabo made combination box/ratcheting box flex heads are definitely the longest available.

Only problem with added length of any super long wrench is you get more flex so if its tight quarters the wrench may just flex in the confined space right into an obstruction where a shorter more rigid wrench would work fine.

Tappet wrenches. Technically low torque, and open ended. In the attached pic, you will see even the 3/8" wrench is 9".

Craftsman/Armstrong make some and they are NOT the raised panel wrenches we all love to hate. Good finish and fit. I use mine quite a bit. You can find a set of USA-made craftsman on ebay for $40. Not sure where the new Craftsman are made, Armstrongs are definitely Made in USA.

Snap/on also makes "thin pattern wrenches". Probably better, but they are priced accordingly.

The Armstrong 10mm Extra Long Combination wrench is listed as 187.5mm, and the Snap-On long combination wrenches are listed as 186mm, so there's not a big difference.

I was looking thru the USAG Tools catalog and they have "long" combination wrenches that seem to be longer than normal. The 10mm USAG 285L "Long Combination Wrench" is listed as being 212mm which would give about an extra inch of length. To get the wrenches though you'd probably have to find a Tool store in Italy that would ship you one. This is the link to the website.

Another thing I saw were some ratcheting wrenches made by Blue Point. I'm not sure what models they are but they're broached like crowfoot wrenches, as well as broached on the back. I don't know if they're made in 10mm but if combined with a breaker bar they might give the leverage needed, and they would still have a low profile since the breaker bar could be inserted in line with the box end. I saw them in this video for the Swivel Pro road boxes. The guy shows them at about 55 seconds in.

Yep, deffinatly had this problem before. As much as the double wrench method is frowned on you can often come up with different angles that can be beneficial.

Exophyusical, I use the double wrench method all the time. Too often a long pattern wrench is too long for everyday use for me, I use a standard length combo. If I need long wrenches I use my box end wrenches or a crowfoot/breaker bar, whatever fits...or double wrench method.
