i want to get a metric set of some extea long ratcheting wrenches if anyone can point me in a good direction i was mainly looking at these matco ones

http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/wrenches-and-sets/ratcheting-box-sets/metric/page-2/

i kinda like the ones that have the ratcheting part stick out more not sure how to explain it...
these are kinda expensive but if they dont break then they should be worth it
i broke a sk one like this already

I think EZ-Red was the only one with an elongated ratcheting ring gear, basically a super shallow socket.

ezred,sk and mountain all offer the deep ratcheting flex on both ends
Which I use the most

But the Matco and gear wrench ones are the only ones now that offer box/ratcheting flex shallow (like gearwrenches)

You will get more versatility with the Matco of all 8-19 (no skipping sizes)
Gearwrench 120xp version is a little beefier but not all sizes only 10-19

My recommendation would be get the mountain 5-piece deep flex spline if I had 1 or the other

Who knows?
You can only find the SK as old stock now though. They are the same as Mountain/ez-Red/Platinum, but without any warranty to back them up.

I have the MATCO set which are made by Kabo in Taiwan. I got mine on ebay because, I just think it's insanity to pay $400 for a set of wrenches. Anyway, I find the Matco beams to be on the thin side. Whereas, the Greawrench 120xp in flex head trim or the Gearbox version seem more comfortable to me.:dunno:

if you want the Matcos, then get the Matcos.

I have some EZ Red versions. Pretty nice wrenches. The ones with the deep boxes lock and are available in SAE and metric, the traditional version does not lock and is available in metric only

I don't think ratcheting wrenches are made for torque. Well, my regular gearwrench flex head anyways. I've stripped out quite a few from too much torque and i can definitely see the longer/more leverage stripping toothes even more.

I have the 10pc (SRFBZLM102TA) Matco ones as well and I've always thought that those and the GearWrench (86126) were really close in the pictures.

Fred care to post a side by side (wide and thin side) of the of the two?

I like my Matco ones but they were sure pricey especially since I only really try to work on my own cars.

What do you guys think about spline drive tools? I think all the wrenches discussed so far are spline drive. I have the snap on set. Bought them on ebay used for $250. They are XDHRM I have 10-19 minus 12 and 14. They are regular flank drive and non flexing.

I just purchased the GearWrench 86126 set that everyone is recommending. I bought them this week so they haven't gotten here yet. I can't wait to try them, they seem like a great set and my other GearWrench tools have been awesome so far. When I saw the Matco's were made overseas, it was a no brainer. Didn't really look at any Snap-On options as they aren't something that will get used all of the time.

all of these are made by Danaher... save the extra bucks and pick up the set brook41 suggested

Not true. First off, let's remember that the only thing MATCO actually makes is tool boxes. Everything else is made by someone else for them.
Secondly, although Matco's original fine tooth and outstanding ratcheting wrenches, the Proswing series were made in Armstrong factories this is no longer the case. Most of Matco's ratcheting wrenches are made in Taiwan by KABO. Great wrenches but, not made by Danaher. Lastly, Danaher is pretty much out of the tool business since the formation of the Apex tool group.

From a professional diesel tech, every single other person on my shift has those exact ratcheting wrenches (or a rebranded version of them). They are the ****. Those will be one of my next purchases.

Man I luv hearing feedback like that from a pro, thanks brother!.

Hey off the top of your head do they make larger sizes as well?.

Ive never seen anything bigger. All the guys in my shop have the standard set, mainly for the 7/16" which is perfect for adjusting brakes.

Well maybe I should have clarified that. When I say bigger I'm talking like up 24mm or 1". Considering your trade, big is BIG!..hahaha. A while back Nothern was giving away those monster Proto ratchet wrenches, so I got a complete set from 1-3/8" to 2-1/2" for $20 each. To date I've used only two of them, but they sure look cool in the box. :D

Yeah, both the independant and the cornwell truck carry those ratchet wrenches (in different brands) and ive only seen the 2 smaller sets in stock (maybe up to 3/4"?). They may be able to order up to 1" but I've never asked.

Na, I just checked their site, other then a 4 piece SAE set, that's it. The one metric size I'm jonesing for would be a 21mm. There's one certain model line I specialize in and 15, 18 and 21 are everywhere. Matter of fact, toss in the pre-rec 8, 10 and 13 and these things become a pile of parts in nothing flat. :spit:
