Looking for 4" or long U-bracket. I searched everywhere and no one makes one that long. I may end up having to make my own. But seems a big hassle.

What do you mean by a u-bracket? Do you have an example to show? Would be easier to help if you made it more clear as to what it is you’re looking for.

You need to be more specific on the application, as well as the width, thickness, what load it's holding, etc.

I want to use the bracket to strengthen a folding dolly where the wheels are mounted.. The dolly currently has plastic arms to hold the wheels. The goal is to keep the arms from flexing. I am thinking The bracket would be 1-1/2" wide and 4" long. Probably 1/8" thickness will suffice. Perhaps a Simpson tie might work.

You aren't going to find that looking for a "U" bracket. I would look for something like a pulley bracket or pulley mount:

Maybe also look at taking the bracket off a "rigid plate caster":

I wouldn't even consider trying to buy something like that, it'd be super easy to make your own. Even if you don't have a welder to cut and weld some strap iron or something all you would have to do is bend it in a vice with a hammer.

That first bend is easy. The second bend just 1.5 inches away is the problem. It can be made a lot easier w/ heat from a torch but it is till tough to jig up in a vice.

A simpson tie could work; get a 1-1/2" wide piece of wood (like a 2x4) and start hammering away. Although 1/8" thick would be pretty stiff to do, you may be off needing to go 1/16" (or the gauge equivalent) to be able to bend. All depends on how much load you're looking to put on the dolly.

I actually like the caster idea though; and instead of just using the caster frame, just use the whole dang caster. Drill some holes and mount on a full caster.

Just add a mending plate to both side of what you are trying to reinforce , should do the same thing. mending plates come in a variety of sizes and have holes already drilled .

I would make it out of rectangular steel tubing and you can cut it and shape it with a 4 1/2” grinder with grinding and cut off wheels. Just get the steel place to cut the tubing to the right length
