Extra shallow sockets?

I'm looking for a set of metric 1/4" drive extra shallow sockets (if they're even made). I've looked all over and haven't seen any. Does anyone make them?

Snap on should be releasing a set any week now. Includes the ratchet for around 150 iirc. P/n was like 110rtsm or something similar.

I just called Snap-on because their site shows the set is available. The rep told me that they have 400 pcs on back order and they should be in Nov 1st. It is indeed the 1/4" low profile set in the following sizes

i am prob going to pick up that kit, I could have used it today to do valve cover bolts on the passenger side of a 7.3 International, what a pain those are with regular size sockets.

I was able to purchase Proto's 3/8" drive metric super short socket set for a 30% discount plus free shipping on September 29 when MSC Direct ran its 1 day discount promotion. I paid $46.89 instead of $66.99 for the Proto socket set (http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRIT...MT4NO=71963196). Does anyone own or used both the Proto and Snap-on shallow 3/8" drive metric sockets? Which brand makes the most shallow 3/8" drive sockets?

I recently picked up the mac 3/8" metric and standard sets. I didn't like the fact that it seems the snappy's were designed to be mainly used with their special ratchet for best results. So I'm using the macs with my 60 tooth matco ratchets. Definitely nice for when you need it.

I believe te 0 degree is the handle off set.

Several ratchets are out that don't use teeth, its more of a cam or something system that is totally smooth, goes one way, and not the other. First tool I got like that was a Wiha driver holder for bits, then a bunch showed up for other products.

What they mean by zero degree is that except for slop between ratchet and socket etc. any movement will turn the socket no matter how small, and on mine at least the drag is nothing too.

I can only guess why people would say this. I have seen the 3/8 drive metric set(fiance's bro has it) and the ratchet it comes with is shorter & the head is thinner than a standard SO ratchet, and the handle is pretty flat/thin IIRC. So that, together w/ thinner sockets, would make for a thinner set up than just the socket & a regular ratchet.

Hmmm...thanks for the thoughts guys. I hadn't even thought of the offset of the ratchet head...that's not normally something they advertise, in my experience at least.

To me that sounds a lot like this, but with an additional 1/4 square drive cut in the top. and that they all use an 11mm ratcheting wrench instead of a different wrench for each one.

yes and no. too many parts to make a socket set and takes up too much room in your box to be a low profile set. these sets are small and compact and you could even shadow them in foam and really make them a small set.

I think that's what it is, with the added benefit that the sockets could be used with a (user provided) regular 11mm wrench.

I bought my set of SAE and Metric passthru sockets and ratchet from HF for $14 on sale, the square drive "feature" isn't worth much to me.

Interesting though, since Sears advertises their pass thru sockets as broached for square drive, but as shipped from Danahner mine didn't have it.
