Extra Tall 2-Post Lift

I am looking at 2-Post lifts for my upcoming build.

I plan for the lift to be located in the middle bay of a 3 bay setup. The middle bay will be about 30 feet deep. The garage door for this bay will be 10 feet wide. The ceiling will be 16 feet tall.

I am thinking that I should place the lift centered - width & depth - in the bay (about 15 feet from lift post to door)

I hadn't thought about it until I saw some information on the BendPak XPR-10A-168 but I should have a lot of height to work with... why not utilize that space and have the option to work on tall vehicles by purchasing a lift that takes advantage of the extra height.

Anybody have a BendPak XPR-10A-168 or something similar?

A potential Group Buy in the "Hot Deals" Forum has me thinking about this BendPak lift.

I have a Ford F150 with a long bed and an extended cab as well as a Honda del Sol. I would say that covers the long and the short of it. Ha!

The del Sol has about 7-inches of floor clearance.

For my situation...

Low profile arms necessary? Asymmetric vs. Symmetric?

Any landmines that anyone can think of.

If you think you'll be lifting a lot of trucks vs. small/mid size cars then go with the symmetric.

Can anyone speak to whether this is marketing hooey or true fact?

at my dealer we have a challenger i think that has that a/symmetric arm set up, and it seems to work...can lift from a small car like a caliber, all the way up to just barely a 1 ton long bed crew cab dually...

Check out the challenger VERSA-Metric. It is available in extra height too.

What kind of garage door are you going to use? If you are using a normal garage door and opener you might want to move the lift away from the door some more so you don't have to worry about the door and opener being in the way.

If you are already planning on a high lift door with jack-shaft opener or a commercial roll up door then never mind.

May I ask the distance from the door to the center of the post.

mohawk. never look back. Columns are only 8'8" high, no cables over head, hydraulic lines buried in the slab. nothing to wear out.

I have the Challenger Versymmetric which can be loaded symmetrically or asymmetrically, so it's not hype. On the Challenger the front lift arms are designed differently to allow the different loading. The columns are straight like a symmetric lift.

I have an older XP-10 in my center bay that is just over 20’ wide and 40’ deep. I have a 10’ wide standard overhead door. I lift many different vehicles with it from a Cobra to a Sierra 2500. I got the lift second hand and absolutely love it. The center section of the bay (10’wide) is at least 8” slab as I was not sure what lift I was going with at build time. What I noticed when I went to look at the lift at the previous owners location was that they centered it in the door opening. I asked if he would do anything different and he said look at how the lift arms offset from the columns. If you want more space to work around the lift you can offset the lift almost 18” to give you some added room on one side or the other.

With my Pick up on the lift I can open the overhead door no problem and have a lot of room at the back of the garage (front of truck) you mentioned you are 30’ deep. How tall is that 10’ wide garage door going to be? This was one of my mistakes I went 8’ tall and would have done 10’ tall since I have plenty of head room in the bay. If you want a standard door opening system you have the room. May be closer to the back of the garage but that is up to you. Here is the set up with the Jag on the lift..

If you can, extra wide helps. It is a lot easier to get in and out of the vehicle with more space between the columns

1964 SI 3.8 non synchro moss box. Car is unmolested but an original rust bucket. It runs rather well so I have kept it on the road but each trip out ends up leaving some new issue with rust. Floors are all but gone.

Possible relocation coming up so easier to move one car than 20 boxes of parts.

Rotary SL210RA in-ground lift, with 9" extensions. No posts, and I've lifted everything from a Testarossa to an Excursion with mine. Same setup as yours, with the lift in a deep center bay of a 3 car space.

Ha! I had an 8-foot tall door on this bay on my garage sketch. I then realized that I had lot's of head room (16 feet) hence this post about a tall lift.

About 12 hours after patting myself on the back for realizing I could put a tall lift in, I was driving down the road in my truck and my subconscious tapped me on the shoulder.

I sheepishly realized that it wouldn't do a lot of good to put in a lift that can more easily accommodate tall vehicles if I couldn't get the tall vehicle through the garage door.

I'm now planning on a 10 foot tall garage door on High Lift rails.

I've got the XPR10-168, door is 10'w x 12' tall, 42' deep shop, 14' walls, 21' to peak. I placed it in just far enough the truck can be on the lift and still close the door and walk behind it. I do have to partially lower the door if the truck or something else tall is going up:
