Will a fridge malfunction in sub zero weather in a garage? The temp in the garage was 23 degrees and the beer was frozen inside the fridge. I went ahead and unplugged the fridge . Any insight on this is welcomed.
Below zero or beow freezing?. Where I live in Northern Illinois and I unplug my refirgerator from the end of November to the begining of March because the temp is routinely well below freezing, occasionally -0. If I don't, the defroster element can't defrost the coils and it frosts up and stops working anyway.
No, it wont damage it, Ive put a light bulb in a unheated fridge before to keep the contents for freezing. Its a low impact way to defrost slowly. I guess we all got get ready for this "global warming" lord knows Im sweating my *** off up here for the last 3 months!
Your fridge should be fine. Your beer is history.
Up here where we actually get EXTREME cold, I unplug my fridge in the Fall when the garage drops to 32 degrees. Then I have a thermostatically controlled light bulb that I use to keep the fridge at 36 degrees all winter until the garage temp rises back up over 32. At that point, I take out the thermostat and light and plug the fridge back in for the summer.
