***Sold*** Extreme Green Wilton 1760
***Sold***
A while back a member here saw the Extreme Green 1740 I did and contacted me to see if I had another. I didn't but had a clean 1760, so we talked it over, and I agreed to paint it in EG, put new jaws on it, and get it ready to go. 150+ texts, probably 20 pictures sent, and then radio silence for weeks. My bad...should have gotten a deposit or something before spending all this time.
So, I have a vise that needs a new home. It's a very solid Wilton 1760 that I stripped to bare metal, put two coats of self-etching primer on it, then three coats of factory Snap-On Extreme Green. I waited a week and put two coats of SprayMax 2K clear coat, which is a 2-part, automotive style clear coat that will resist gasoline, and most other solvents.
I polished all the bare metal, and then reassembled, adding a new set of tool steel jaws from GJ member Autopts. Wilton uses sintered metal jaws which are very hard, but chip and crack easily. These jaws are a major upgrade and should last for a lifetime.
There were no cracks, or damage anywhere. I smoothed some casting marks and minor dings with a flap disc, but that's the extent of the body work. There's no filler, epoxy, etc anywhere on it.
This vise still had some of the original paint so I know it was sold as a standard Wilton Tradesman. I have both factory Wilton and Snap-On badges for the left side. For reference, the Wilton and Snap-On vises are all made by Wilton, have the same casting numbers, and if you need parts they come from JPW (Jet Powermatic Wilton) regardless where you order them. So, if you want to put a Snap-On vise on your SO bench, you're not really faking anything...it's the same tool regardless of who originally sold it to a customer.
Shipping is on your dime, but I'll work with you to make it affordable. I just shipped an identical 1760 to South Dakota and it was $60 via UPS Ground with the Paypal discount. I will meet you within roughly 50mi of zip code 48111 for free if you want to pick it up.
Here are a few pics....I took this to document the process for the "buyer" so they aren't my normal finished pics, but I think they give enough detail to show it's in great condition. Let me know if you want to see anything additional.
You can also call my cell 734-386-0130 if you need more info, or contact me though my website.
