Extreme Tools 70" pit box review

I purchased the Extreme Tools pit box about 2 weeks ago. Before buying, I found virtually no real world reviews or experiences on the box. I figured I would be the nice guy and post a good review where anyone doing a google search could find it and determine if it fits their needs. There is a youtube video from Redline Stands, which incidentally is where I bought it from. However, it's on a new, empty box, and doesn't go into great detail. My purchase experience with them was very satisfactory and shipping was much faster then I anticipated.

This is my first experience with the extreme tools brand. I've heard nothing but good things about their products, and this box fits right in line with others. It is a very nice piece, fit, finish and overall feel is excellent. The box is pretty heavy, with a shipping weight of 800 lbs. The shipping crate is very stout and the box arrived undamaged. One person can uncrate it and get it off the pallet. Box dimensions are 70 1/2" x 24" x 48". The tires stick out further then the box, 31" wide from sidewall to sidewall. Overall length with handle in upright position is 81". Usable space in the side cabs is 17 1/2" wide, 22" deep and 25" high. Usable drawer space is 20 3/4" deep x 30 1/4" wide. Drawers fully extend. Drawer latches are similar to the snap on epiq, the whole drawer guard pulls up to release the latches. They have a terrific, almost machined feel, with no slop in the guards. Drawers open smoothly, a little stiff at first, but have loosened up with use. Deep drawers have dual slides. Cabinets are held shut with magnets. A single lock locks and unlocks the drawer section and the side cabs.

Moving the box takes some effort to get it rolling, but once rolling it moves and steers easily. I have it moderately loaded, and you can tell it's heavy, but not unmanageable. It does have hydraulic brakes, which are extremely effective, along with a park brake function. The box and handle are very tall, I am 6'6" and can see where a shorter person may have difficulty pushing a fully loaded unit. Pulling it is easier as the handle pulls down. The handle is spring loaded. Turning radius is decent, but the box becomes increasingly more difficult to roll at full lock. I bought the box to use as my mobile cart in a medium sized shop, that also has an outdoor bay for large trucks, so it's not terribly difficult to navigate, but it certainly is nowhere near as maneuverable as a traditional cart. Used for its intended purpose as a pitbox, it would be seamless. The tires are pneumatic.

Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and plan on this thing lasting a lifetime. I personalized it with a large vise, which feels very secure bolted through the top, mounted a 25' extension cord reel in one of the side cabs so I can plug the box in when I move around, with a USB and power outlet strip mounted on top.

They are not. The steering looks easily serviceable, if the rear axle isn't off of an atv, it's certainly designed directly after one, but with as little movement this thing does apposed to what an atv goes through, I don't see bearing life ever being an issue.

I suppose so. I can't find any flaws or QC problems, there wasn't even a single fingerprint anywhere on it when I unboxed it. It is made in China, meant to add that in the original post.

The welds while functional...are not as neat as I have seen on others.

A stout box I am sure. It will last you a long time no doubt.

Yeah, but the rotor adds unsprung weight, so you'll suffer on acceleration.

I suppose that could be true, but the more tools that are added as sprung weight, this may become a non-factor as the sprung/unsprung ratio widens. Perhaps during times of light loading, an ultra thin drag chute may be more beneficial.

Does the OP have an idea of the total weight of the braking system (including fluid)?
