Today I received my new extreme toolbox. It's the model RXE5618, overall the box is very nice looking and has good feel. Does anyone know if these boxes are made at the same place as ToolVault boxes and Montezuma? I'd like to get a side locker but can't see spending $600 when I only paid $800 for the box.

I'm guessing from the price you got it from Rockin' Tool Boxes. I bought one as well, mine is a prototype 56" EX5622 i think. Different layout than the ones now, taller with a bigger top hatch. I paid $900 for what new would have been $1999. Mine has the "grip latches" like the Masterforce boxes they sell at Menards. I suspect the same company builds these as well as the Tool Vault stuff. Very nice for the money.

Yep came from them. I wanted that prototype box but didn't have the cash to swing it at the time. A buddy has a 56" tool vault and it's almost identical to my lower box. I'd like a side locker and was thinking about a mastercraft from menards since they offer blue and don't cost $600.

Mastercraft is indeed almost identical (sizes and drawer layout add to evidence)
They made in same factory (Q-C)
I think you will find even the blue a very close match if not identical !
The masterforce range is pretty good features and add-ons and prices can be sensible, side cabinet sensible money even when not on sale, roller cabinets and chests are nice buy when they have the sale pricing .

Just FYI, I purchased an Extreme Tools 41 inch 11-drawer rolling cabinet a year ago and was satisfied with the purchase until I rolled the unit into my garage, which has a slight height difference at the threshold between the garage slab and the driveway. Even though the toolbox wasn't fully loaded (much less than each drawer is rated for as specified on their website), rolling over the 1/4" garage lip caused the sheet metal underneath the cabinet to buckle on the seam, right where the caster is bolted to. This buckling causes the two cabinets to lean about 10 degrees, and i'm unable to roll the cabinet safely now. The other caster is starting to bend as well due to the mismatched height of the two back casters.

After calling the company and submitting a warranty claim, the company representative states that "the owner of the company has determined that this is not a factory defect." and have stopped responding to communication. So I'm out over a thousand dollars because Extreme Tools will not honor their own warranty. Buyer beware, these Chinese made toolboxes look nice but do not hold their rated weight and the US marketing company that rebrands them has no intention of standing behind their product.
