...can't believe I hadn't found this forum sooner.

I bought my first garage a year and a half ago... (sure... it came with a house too)

It came to me as an attatched standard size 2 car. Slab Door, and I had to share space with a water heater, washer n' drier.

As of now, the washer, drier, and water heater have all moved out. I've added lots of light, lots of outlets, aluminum top benches, beerfridge with filtered water/ice plumbed in, sink, a $4.57 Flat Screen, Surround Sound and even a urinal.

Still in the works, drywall, welding area with 220, bigger compressor housed outside and plumbed compressor lines, gable vent fan, fixing the cracked floor and maybe some acid stain....

Looking forward to your advice..

That has to be the first VW beetle I've ever seen with a dry break mounted on the roof!

Good start on the garage, also.

Welcome to the GJ Motorbreath! Your post was killing me...I was LMAO!! I have always said I wanted to put in a urinal if I ever got to build something. Now that I'm getting ready to start, I second guessed myself and decided not to do so - plus it eliminated the expense of connecting up to the sewer line. Then I see your post and that totally made my day! :bounce: I love it! :bounce:

The urinal is far too cool... but in my case, it was almost too easy to not do. I had removed my washing machine from that spot, as well as my water heater.

So, there was a nearby 3/4 inch cold water supply, as well as a suitable drain.... both literally within 3 feet.

This pic doesn't show my "privacy wall" between the sink.. but there is one now...

thanks for the conformation that my smile is justified.

OH! and the roof mounted fuel fill is not a dry break... looks like one... but my car is very much a budget build toy that has NO room for neat stuff like a dry break.

Welcome to GJ, Motorbreath. Nice shop and nice bug. I've got a 65 bus in my shop right now.

So, what's the story on the $4.57 Flat Screen? I'd pay ya twice that if you wanted to get rid of it...

The $4.57 TV is a 32" Polaroid that formerly belonged to my cousin. It began having problems that were diagnosed by Polaroid over the phone as a "bad control box", a $200 part.

The TV sat in my cousins garage for almost 2 years awating his attention.

My cousin bought a bigger TV and finally gave up hope for finding the extra time/money to mess with the old one. He offered the TV to me for FREE.

So, once the TV was at my house, I started doing some Google searches. I found that there are two capacitors in the control box that commonly fail. It showed how to identify bad capacitors. Sure enough, both of them were blown. I found a pack of 5 capacitors (enough to fix 2 1/2 of these tv's:thumbup:) on Ebay for $4.57 shipped to my door. I just had to pull the board and solder them in.

I called my cousin and told him to come get his TV, and to bring a 6 pack of Oaked Arrogant ******* Ale. He refused, and insisted "deal is a deal...TV's yours"

DISCLOSURE: I have no F*#$ING idea what a capacitor does... and before I took my cheap soldering iron to the circuit board, had never soldered anything smaller than speaker wire:lol_hitti TV hasn't skipped a beat since though...

The urinal... :headscrat No faith in me? The urinal DOES connect to a proper waste water drain. It will not be somthing however, that I intend to leave in this house when I move. ...Unless they include that in the counter offer...

You mentioned you removed the washer so there was a drain and the water supply...just no mention of easy access to a soil pipe. I wouldn't leave it either... it's my understanding that the newer chem/waterless urinals can connect to a standard drain line.

Great job on the TV! Now I know who to contact when I have problems...

I'm confused. No urinal I've ever seen needs a soil pipe connection. 1-1/2 or 2" is all - but maybe all I've seen is newer stuff...

wbrian63, in my are you must hook directly into the sewer line same as toilet. I'm sure it's the same in Sand Diego County as well. Unless it is the new waterless style.

Great score on the TV.

For the urinal drain, when we design a house, the drains all go the same place - sink, toilet or washer - all go int the same line to the street. I'd take it with me if I moved...

well....

i'm glad I mounted the urinal before I came in here... cause you gentlemen may have convinced me it was a bad idea.

It does use the drain formerly occupied by the washer. It was my understanding that all the waste water pipes ended up in the same place?

I thought you were accusing me of the "french drain" idea that I read about (hole in the concrete, with waste draining into the dirt)

Anyway, I do intend on taking it with me when I sell this place... So, it should never cause me a problem. (as long as the city code enforcement doesnt' notice it next time they come over to accuse me of running a buisness :headscrat)

motorbreath53, dude, never intended on making a big deal of this I was simply curious. Heck I might do that same thing in a month or so. Where did she get it and approximately what did it cost if you don't mind my asking.

No big deal here friend... I am just doing everything in my power to increase the value of this little dump of a house... and wouldn't want to do anything that would be viewed as a "no no" by an inspector... But, the urinal will be moved to my next shop anyway.

And when I said "she bought it for me", what I meant was, I bought it and stuck it under the tree with a gift label from her to me.

I actually found it on Craigslist for $100. (yes it was brand-new) It came with the valve and even a hands free flusher. I liked the handle better though... its a garage, not a Home-Town Buffet afterall....
