Just received this ratchet that I ordered from Amazon. So far I am impressed.

Re: EZ-RED 22" long locking flex head 1/2" drive ratchet - overview/first impression

I bought the set of three extra long fixed heads about a year ago. I'm very happy with them. I wondered how good the locking flex was, but think you answered that for me. Go put that thing to work and make sure it'll stay locked under a load. I've had nothing but trouble with the Armstrong one I bought, so much so I rarely use the 3/8" and gave my 1/2" to a buddy of mine.

They should be basically the same heads as the HF extending ratchets inside.. Ezred sells basically identical models as them. All the internals are probably interchangeable

I have the HF flex head as well I will definitely have to compare the two.. The HF flex head has the direction change switch that operates opposite of EVERY OTHER brand ratchet I own (you never get used to that) but it's a decent mechanism. I'll take and post some comparison pictures of the heads.

What happens when the laser etched writing wears off?
Warranty is no longer valid?

Thats not likely to be the situation. that push button design is unique to EZ-RED I i have not seen another company with that style flex head lock. I could be wrong but tool companies don't usually give you a hard time with warranties.

Ok I have added another video to my website as well as pictures that show the external differences between the EZ-RED locking flex head and the Harbor Freight (pittsburgh pro) flex head ratchet.. Just click the picture in the first post.

Thanks for the comparison. Had to scroll down a bit after clicking the second pic. They may be made in the same factory but the parts don't swap.

yeah they are similar but. the parts will not swap.

I used the EZ-RED today doing a rear wheel bearing on my Ford and the flex head is very solid when locked.

You are comparing the wrong ratchets I was trying to suggest. Ez red sells the same type of 1/2" extending ratchet as the HF extending 1/2" model. Ez red also offers that ratchet in a flex and locking flex head too I believe. Without having the chrome handled model that you have in hand, I can only assume that the actual heads would be the same. 72 tooth, socket release button.. try comparing that ez red you have to the HF 1/2" extending model that does not have a flex head.. You may find that the anvil and pawls are also identical..
